A Donegal man played a part as St Jude’s shocked Ballymum Kickhams in the Dublin SFC on Saturday night.
Convoy native Liam Mailey was in goal for St Jude’s as they defeated Ballymum 2-9 to 1-11 at Parnell Park.
The Templeogue side struck 1-2 in the closing stages, including a goal by Chris Guckian and points from Niall Coakley and Kieran Doherty to seal a famous win.
Ballymena boasted James McCarthy, Philly McMahon, Dean Rock, John Small, Evan Comerford and Paddy Small – all of them All-Ireland winners with Dublin – in their starting XV.
But St Jude’s, who had Kevin McManamon in tow, overcame last year’s beaten Dublin SFC finalists to move into a semi-final.
Mailey had a spell on the books at Finn Harps and trained with the Donegal senior football panel this summer.
