Kilcar delivered a fine response yesterday to suggestions that football was ‘dying’.
The Donegal SFC final was widely derided after just two points were scored – one by each team – as Kilcar defeated Naomh Conaill 0-7 to 0-4.
Former Donegal footballer Manus Boyle, in a recent interview, said that he felt that ‘the game is dying in front of us and we need to take some radical steps to save it’.
“I am 51 years old and I could have played quite comfortably in that match as it was just so pedestrian,” Boyle said in the interview.
“And if would be very unfair to unduly blame either Kilcar or Naomh Conaill as they are just playing the game the way it has evolved.
“Kilcar are worthy champions and well deserved too, but we need to do something to fix our game and quickly.”
Yesterday, though, Kilcar were back to their slick and deadly best as they racked up 1-16.
Kilcar overcame Scotstown 1-16 to 1-6 in the Ulster Senior Club Championship quarter-final with Patrick McBrearty and Ryan McHugh accounting for 0-13 of the total between them.
And Kilcar didn’t miss a chance to bite back!
