The new Donegal ETB golf season got underway after the first outing in Letterkenny Golf Club – with Eamonn McDonnell victorious in the first competition of the new campaign.
New society Captain, Mr John Bosco Gallagher of Colaiste Ailigh hit the first ball of the 2018/19 season on a beautiful autumn morning.
The winner on the day was long-time member McDonnell who came home with a score of 32pts to pip Elaine Russell on a break of tie on a tough day for scoring at the Barnhill layout.
Enda Mannion with 31pts and Rory White with 28pts filled the other two spots to make up the top four. Alex Harkin picked up the retired members prize with 28pts while Kate Gallagher won the category four prize with 27pts.
During his opening address, Captain John Bosco welcomed the new members to the Society and encouraged all schools and centres to promote the Society within their staffs.
The ETB Golf Society meets seven times between September and May. Points are awarded for each outing with the golfer who accumulates most points over the season being deemed Golfer of the Year- Finn Valley College’s Paddy McDaid being the reigning champion.
There is also a special signature hole Magnificent seven competition with Gartan’s Kate Gallagher proving victorious last year.
The Society has also recently begun incorporating an overnight outing alongside the schedule with Slieve Russell and Rosapenna being visited the past two years.
Any prospective new members may contact either Marcel McCafferty at marcelmccafferty@donegaletb.ie or rorywhite@donegaletb.ie for details.
A real treat lies in store for our next outing as we head northwards to the home of 2018 Irish Open and the Glashedy Links at Ballyliffin on Saturday, November 3.
Members should contact Jim McGlynn to book their place.
