DONEGAL CHAMPIONS NAOMH CONAILL are on the hunt for a new manager after Martin Regan confirmed that he will not be seeking to stay in the job.
Regan has conveyed his decision to the Naomh Conaill players.
The 31-year-old steps aside after one year in the job at Davy Brennan Memorial Park, during which he led the Glenties club to their third Donegal SFC title.
Naomh Conaill defeated St Eunan’s 0-11 to 0-10 in the county final in October when a superb second-half display from Leo McLoone saw them overcome the sending off of Eoghan McGettigan to take the win.
Regan (pictured above with Chris McNulty of Donegal Sport Hub) played with Naomh Conaill until a back injury prematurely called time on his playing career at the end of last year.
He had managed at underage level and was with the Under-21s at a time when Paddy Campbell’s departure left a void at the senior set-up.
Regan – a sub in 2005 when Naomh Conaill won Dr Maguire for the first time in 2005 and a midfielder when they won it in 2010 – led his team to the county Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta title in May and won the All-Ireland Gaeltacht crown at the end of October.
Their Ulster SFC quest was ended by Trillick, the Tyrone champions.
Regan, a teacher at St Columba’s Comprehensive School in Glenties, is set to get married to his fiancĂ©e, Orlagh Carr, later this month.
