COCKHILL CELTIC WILL be crowned Ulster Senior League champions for a fourth year in a row should they avoid defeat to Derry City Reserves tomorrow night.
Gavin Cullen’s team were tonight awarded three points by the USL’s disciplinary committee, a decision that puts them within touching distance of the title.
The disciplinary action arose from a scheduled meeting between Cockhill and Derry on April 17 in Templemore.
Cockhill arrived to find no sign of Derry and the failure of the Candystripes to field meant they were sanctioned tonight.
Cockhill were awarded a 3-0 win tonight and are poised now to be the title winners again.
Donal O’Brien guided them to three-in-a-row, but the Dubliner stepped down last summer and is now on Derry’s coaching staff.
Gavin Cullen, alongside Daniel Nolan and Shane Gallivan, has taken over and is set to continue where O’Brien left off.
The League fixture was one of two games between the teams that Derry didn’t turn up for with Cockhill previously given a 3-0 win for the League Cup semi-final.
