Mark English bowed out of the 2017 World Athletics Championships after finishing fifth in his heat.
The thunder roared around the London Stadium as English went under starters orders, drawn in lane 8 of the fifth 800m heat of the day.
The 24-year-old, who previously who previously won European bronze and European indoor silver medals, finished in 1:48.01 – not enough to qualify for tomorrow’s semi-final.
English, who is coached by the Texas-based Steve Magness, was drawn in a tricky heat, the fifth of the day, alongside Amos, Kszczot and Bosse, but will still be disappointed by his run.
As well as the top three from each heat, the six fastest losers would go through – but English’s time wasn’t quick enough to be in contention.
The heat was won by Nijel Amos in 1:47.10, Pierre-Ambroise Bosse was second in 1:47.25 with Adam Kszczot third in 1:47.36.
English was troubled, earlier in the year, by a nerve problem to his left quad, which stunted his progress before the summer dawned.
Having booked his place in London when he stopped the watch at 1:45.52 at a Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, English won the Irish 800m title and ran a fine race for Ireland at the European Team Championships League 1 in Finland.
At the Olympic Games in Rio last year, English reached the 800m semi-finals. He came 5th in his semi – which included the world record holder David Rudisha – in a time of 1:45.09.
