Details of next month’s Danny McDaid 15K road race were announced in the Station House Hotel, Letterkenny, on Monday afternoon.
The event, which is sponsored by The Station House Hotel, will take place on Sunday week, August 2 with an 11.30 am start.
Speaking at the launch, race director, Brendan McDaid, said the organisers were expecting a record crowd this year.
“We had 221 competitors last year, and with numbers taking part in the Donegal Grand Prix Series continuing to grow, we would be hoping to attract somewhere in the region of 300 competitors,” he said.
“This is the longest of the grand prix races and with big numbers expected to take part in the Donegal Marathon and Donegal Half Marathon three weeks after the Danny McDaid 15k, this is seen as ideal preparation,” he added.
Also speaking at the launch, Shiloe Gormley, marketing manager at the Station House Hotel, said the hotel was delighted to be associated with the race again this year.
“The Station House Hotel has been the main sponsor of the race for the last number of years and we wish everyone taking part well,” she commented.
This will be the 11th staging of the race, with the first race having taken place in 2005. The race is named after Letterkenny AC’s Danny McDaid who took part in the Olympic Games in ’72 and ’76.
