LETTERKENNY Institute of Technology went down to a heavy loss in the HEC Ladies Championship Moynihan Cup semi-final yesterday evening in Belfast.
UCD 5-05 LYIT 0-08
From winning the throw-in, UCD worked the ball up the field finding the net in the first ten seconds and minutes later doubled their score from the penalty spot.
The Dublin girls added a third goal before Emma McMahon kicked two successive scores for LyIT which were cancelled out by two points from UCD.
An Aishleen McGuinness point and three more from Emma McMahon reduced the difference to five, but UCD scored a fourth goal against the run of play to leave the half time score 4-02 to 0-06.
Much of the second half was dominated by the LyIT girls.
Two fine scores from Nadine Friel and Grainne Tibby brought the difference in the score down to seven points when LyIT missed a penalty, then minutes later agonisingly hit the post.
UCD were not to be overturned tonight, they defended vigorously in numbers in the later second half and they closed out their win with a late goal.
