CIARA ANDERSON’S history-making bout in Dublin ended in defeat for the Twin Towns ABC woman at The National Stadium this evening.
Light-fly Anderson was beaten by St Anne’s Shannon Sweneey in the National Under-22 semi-final in Dublin.
The bout was the first women’s bout at the venue to be fought over three, three-minute rounds, following a recent change to the rules by AIBA.
The 18-year-old Anderson, a two-time Irish champion, missed out on a place in tomorrow’s final.
Sweeney claimed the win on a unanimous decision, taking the 30-25, 30-27, 30-27 verdict from the ringside judges.
Tomorrow, Illies Golden Gloves’ Leigh Moran and Dungloe’s Matthew McCole are in Under-22 semi-final action.
Moran faces Glasnevin’s Jordan Moore at 52kgs and McCole is up against Gleann’s Caoimhin Ferguson.
