A GOAL SCORED by Shane Gallagher on Valentine’s Day meant Deele Harps picked up three points against Ballybofey United this afternoon.
Confused?
That’s because when Deele welcomed Ballybofey to the Athletic Club in Lifford six weeks ago, the match was abandoned 17 minutes from time with the hosts 1-0 in front in the Donegal League CT Ball Division 2.
Referee Barry Hunter called a halt to proceedings on February 14 as there were spectators encroaching the field of play in a contest where there was little in the form of controversy, with just one yellow card handed out over the course of the game.
However, the Donegal League Disciplinary Committee ordered the match to be played to a conclusion.
So today, Deele withstood an onslaught from the visitors to hold onto the 1-0 advantage Gallagher had given them to take the three points.
The win means Deele are top of the division on goal difference from Glenree United, with both sides having 36 points from 16 games, with Erne Wanderers just one point behind.
