Declan Boyle is the top seed for this Sunday’s Fanning Motor Factors Tipperary Stonethrowers Rally in Clonmel, round four of the seven round Triton Showers National Rally Championship campaign.
It’s some eleven weeks since the last round in Cavan where Monaghan’s Josh Moffett took his first win of the season.
In the meantime, the Sligo Rally fell victim to the sweltering heat and has since been re-arranged for the first Sunday in September.
Boyle will have James O’Reilly on the notes in the R5 Fiesta this weekend for the nine stages in Clonmel.
Boyle had a frustrating Donegal International Rally in June, but won in Mayo and was second in both Tralee and Cavan.
Muff’s Joe McGonigle, with Falcarragh’s Ciaran Geaney on board in the WRC Mini, is fourth seed. McGonigle has scored in all three rounds and is second in the Championship.
Another Donegal man, Stuart Darcy, goes in a Darian T90
Among the Donegal men vying for honours this weekend are Aaron McLaughlin and Darren Curran in the Lancer; Jonny Jordan and Paddy McCrudden in their Starlet; the Civic of Michael Boyle and Dermot McCafferty; Darragh Kelly and Eamonn Doherty in an Escort.
Rally headquarters is at the Clonmel Park Hotel with the first car away at 9am on Sunday morning. The service park is at the Powerstown Racecourse with servicing prior to the start and after stages three and six. The stage locations are Lisnamuck, Knockgraffon and Donegal, the first pair are some 15 kilometres in length and the third stage is 9.5 kilometres. The loop is repeated three times before the finish at the Clonmel Park Hotel at 5.00pm.
