THE ULSTER COUNCIL will tonight hear the appeals of the Donegal County Board and Donegal Under-21 football manager Declan Bonner against sanctions arising out of last month’s Ulster Under-21 semi-final.
Bonner was slapped with a proposed six-month ban and the County Board fined €2,000 because of an after-match brawl following the game at Celtic Park on March 30.
Both penalties are being challenged.
The Ulster Competitions Controls Committee (CCC) came down hard, with Tyrone also handed a €2,000 fine. They have also appealed the severity of their fine and will also have a hearing tonight.
Bonner was hit with the proposed 24-week ban after being cited for ‘abuse of the referee’.
Barry Cassidy was the man in the middle on the night in question and sent off Donegal players Stephen McMenamin and Bruce Waldron during the game won by Tyrone 1-15 to 2-8.
McMenamin was given two bookings with Waldron, who came on as a substitute, given the full compliment of yellow, black and red cards.
Donegal were 0-6 to 0-4 up at half-time against the reigning All-Ireland champions before Tyrone got the better of the 13 men to run out three point-winners.
The Ulster Hearings Committee will listen to the appeals at a hearing in Armagh.
