TWIN TOWNS LIGHT-MIDDLEWEIGHT PAUL DARBY advanced into the semi-finals of the Ulster Intermediate Championships last night.
Darby, who competed in the Celtic Box Cup in Waterford recently, defeated Raphoe’s Danny Duggan on a unanimous decision at the Dockers Club in Belfast.
Darby was in control for much of the fight and took the decision from the judged at ringside.
He will now meet Daniel O’Hagan from Omagh in Wednesday’s semi-final.
Dungloe’s Jonathan Smith will be in the other light-middleweight semi where he will meet Clonard’s Gerard French.
There were preliminary round defeats for two Donegal boxers last night at middleweight. Cathal Browne of Illies lost out against Eamon Derby of Phoenix and Michael Ward from Letterkenny was beaten by Patrick Doherty from St Joseph’s.
Six Donegal boxers are in action tonight, including four in semi-finals.
Finn Valley’s Orin McDermott and Dungloe’s Mark McCole have been kept apart in the welterweight semis. McDermott meets Maurice Little from Dungannon and McCole squares up to Omagh’s Nathan Fox.
Raphoe’s Dennis Lafferty takes on Conan Patterson (Phoenix) in a featherweight semi-final with Letterkenny man Michael McConigley up against Damien O’Hagan (Bishop Kelly) in a heavyweight semi.
In middleweight quarter-finals, Cathal McLaughlin (Raphoe) faces Daniel Anderson (Dockers) and Oran Shields (Letterkenny) touches leather with Dylan Taylor (Clonard).
