ST JOHNSTON’S Damien Duddy won the ISKA Irish amateur 60kg K-1 title last Saturday.
The 17-year old defeated Matty Ryan – from the Westside club in Athlone – who presented the rising talent with the hardest test of his young career.
‘Kid Dynamite’ Duddy, (pictured above with coach Daniel Quigley and his father, Cathal Duddy) who represents Strike Martial Arts Academy, was one of the stars at the Longtower Youth Club as the Bay Road club hosted a huge night of action.
Ryan is ranked the number two K-1 fighter in the world by the World Kickboxing Federation, but Duddy is no slouch himself – as he proved with a stunning victory to land yet another title.
“It was undoubtedly the hardest test of his career so far,” said Strike coach Daniel Quigley.
“At only 17 years-old he had a lot of pressure on his shoulders, but he has gained more experience and added another title to the collection.”
Previous to this one, Duddy won ISKA Irish, European and World full-contact titles and in May he was crowned ISKA Amateur Irish champion after defeating Blackrock’s Ben Clarke at the Longtower Youth Club.
In the bill-topper at the show, Steve Owens, now 8-2-0, won the ISKA 5 Nations Pro Am title thanks to an impressive victory over Englishman, Tier Blundell.
