DAMIEN ‘Kid Dynamite’ Duddy fights for the ISKA 60kgs Irish Amateur title on Saturday night.
Duddy headlines a major kickboxing show at the Ann Street Sports Arena in Derry.
The 17-year-old St Johnston native, who represents the Strike Martial Arts Academy, faces Matty Ryan of the Westside Kickboxing Club in Athlone. Ryan is ranked the number two K-1 fighter in the world by the World Kickboxing Federation.
Duddy has a big pedigree in the sport. He has won ISKA Irish, European and World full-contact titles and in May he was crowned ISKA Amateur Irish champion after defeating Blackrock’s Ben Clarke at the Longtower Youth Club.
That night was Strike’s first event as former four-time world professional champion Daniel ‘Pinta’ Quigley made the move into promoting.
Duddy is a student at Deele College in Raphoe and is Strike’s blue chip fighter. He’s no stranger to the big stage having scooped a world title in November 2013 while fighting out of PT’s Kickboxing Gym in Carrigans.
Nicknamed ‘Kid Dynamite’ for his explosive speed and agility, Duddy collected the World title in front of 2,000 people at the Millenium Forum, at the time making it the biggest kickboxing tournament ever seen in Ireland.
Duddy’s team-mate Steve Owens is also bidding for a title on Saturday night while a packed undercard featuring Derry’s top rising K-1 fighters will precede the main event, Duddy’s quest for glory.
