A NIAMH Carroll cracker after just four minutes ended Bonagee United’s WFAI Intermediate Cup aspirations.
TEK United 1 Bonagee United 0
Carroll struck the only goal of the game from distance as TEK United squeezed through to the semi-finals.
With Bonagee momentarily switched off, Carroll looped a long-range effort over the reach of Bonagee ‘keeper Clare Friel.
Rocked by that goal, it took Bonagee some time to warm to their task.
Bonagee had a couple of promising attacks, but couldn’t find a way through for the equaliser by the break.
Friel kept TEK at bay with a fine save, turning over the top, to keep her side in with a chance.
A well-worked Bonagee free kick saw Denise McElhinney slip Chantelle Grant through in the box, but TEK averted the danger.
Bonagee had the ball in the net when Denise Doherty latched onto a Natalie McFadden pass.
Doherty’s composed finished looked to have drawn Bonagee level, but the offside flag cut the celebrations short.
Bonagee were energised and a Siobhan Sweeney cross, with Amy Boyd lurking in the area, was held by the home goalkeeper.
Alice Diver shot wide from 20 yards while Deborah Kerrigan breathed some new life into the Bonagee charge.
Try as they might, though, they couldn’t find the killer touch and their run is over.
