Following on from last week’s win away to Bonds Glen, St Johnston continued their league campaign on Saturday with a win away to Drummond.
Drummond won the toss and elected to bat. The Saints bowled well and took key wickets at key stages to enable them to restrict Drummond to 171 all out, despite spilling a few easy catches.
Nathan Coles was best with the ball with his 10 overs yielding 4 wickets for only 31 runs, whilst there were also 2 wickets each for the support bowlers David Macbeth and Michael Rankin.
St. Johnston’s reply started with a change in the opening partnership, with David Lapsley joining Jack Macbeth at the crease.
However they got off to a poor start losing young Jack for just 5 runs.
After this St. Johnston were able to chase down the total with minimal fuss. Lapsley, in a new role at the top of the order, took his chance to shine with an excellent 44, and formed a solid partnership with Ramees Machingal who returned to form with 35.
The experienced David Macbeth was then able to come in and close out the match with a quick fire 37 along with Michael Rankin’s dexterous 28 to ease the Saints to victory with 4 wickets to spare.
This week will also see the Saints 2nd XI play the Q3 Cup Final against Killyclooney.
The team will be led by their captain Anil Kumar and will be played over Friday 17th and Saturday 18th at the St Johnston ground and a strong crowd is expected.
