A CONVOY MAN will return from the 2016 European Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Portugal with a bronze medal.
TJ McMenamin, competing in the masters section, took bronze in the blue belt, medium-heavy category.
McMenamin overcame Vittorio Romano Cervone from Carlson Gracie Team before losing out to Bozkurt R Yalim of CheckMat in his next contest.
However, the win over Cervone was enough to bag McMenamin a bronze.
McMenamin was competing for the Rilion Gracie Ireland team and is the second Donegal man to win a medal after Laghey’s William Timoney won a gold medal on Wednesday.
Ramelton’s Mairead Coyle bowed out on points in her opening round. The blue belt rooster weight was pipped by Jessica Caroline Coelho Dantas from Brasa CTA.
There was disappointment, too, for Bundoran’s Gavin Bowe. After winning his first fight by submission yesterday against Stefano van Bovene, he lost out to Marius Hakonsen.
