THE CLUBMAN SHIRTS LEAGUE CUP QUARTER-FINALS are down for decision on Sunday and there are some interesting clashed scheduled.
The meeting of Illies Celtic and Moville Celtic will see the home side confident of advancing while Aileach and QPS clash again after meeting in the League two weeks ago.
Clonmany will be favourites when they travel to Caratra Park to face Culdaff while finally Glengad will fancy their chances at home to young Buncrana Hearts side.
In the First Division the meeting of Dunree and Cockhill will be interesting while Carn and Rasheney clash at St Patricks Park and Redcastle host Carrowmena
CLUBMAN SHIRTS LEAGUE CUP QUARTER-FINALS, 1.30pm
Illies Celtic v Moville Celtic (M McGonigle, L Porter, Joe Doherty)
ILLIES have made a good start to their season and have a number of good young players like Kevin McGonagle, Michael Doherty and Stephen Grant in their ranks.
Moville despite qualifying for the quarter finals suffered a huge league defeat to Clonmany but with players of the quality of Antonio Rea, Conor Doherty, Shaun Doherty and the experienced Eamon Reddin in their ranks are a much better side than that result.
Illies are always difficult to beta at home and with Moville’s confidence low the home side could advance in what will be a close affair.
Â
Aileach FC v QPS (G McLaughlin, S Deeney, JP Fahy)
THE Point under Brian Bell have made a winning start and a fortnight ago they inflicted a one-nil defeat on Aileach.
They possess quality young players like goalkeeper Jordan McLaughlin, Odhran McColgan, Oisin McCool and Denim McLaughlin.
Michael Barr remains at the helm in Aileach and they will be keen to avenge that early league defeat.
James Gillespie has returned to the first team while Darren Gallagher has moved up from the reserves. In another tight call it could go either way with extra time a possibility.
Culdaff FC v Clonmany Shamrocks (T McAree, JJ Lafferty, G O’Kane)
THE home side have made a dreadful start to their league programme with defeats to Illies and Buncrana and it does not get any easier with the visit of free scoring Clonmany.
They will look to Patrick McGrenaghan, Darragh McLaughlin and Darren Mullarkey to inspire.
The return of Jason Doherty and Jason Devlin has really strengthened the Shamrocks and they annihilated Moville a fortnight ago.
While Culdaff usually play well against Clonmany on form Clonmany are hot favourites.
Â
Glengad United v Buncrana Hearts (T Moyne, JP Houten, B McDaid)
HOLDERS Glengad have been rewarded with a home tie against a very young Buncrana side.
Hugh McGonigle has placed his faith in the likes of Adam Callaghan, Craig Doherty and Bart Wesoloski who has already been among the goals.
But against the holders and defending league champions this is the acid test and with the likes of John McDaid, Terence Doherty and Nigel McMonagle they will be severely tested. Glengad are hot favourites.
Â
STRAND HOTEL FIRST DIVISION, 2pm
Redcastle United v Carrowmena FC (E Doherty)
DAVID Cunningham has assumed the reigns at Redcastle and they are in a period of transition and rebuilding.
He will look to the likes of Colm McLaughlin, Seamus Doherty and Brendan Murphy to give direction and leadership. Carrowmena under Raymond Dougal battled well against Cockhill a fortnight ago and he will look on Shane Skelly, Kevin Toner and Ruairi Dougal to inspire.
Home advantage could be the key here.
Â
Carn FC v Rasheney FC (L Davenport)
NIALL McGuinness has returned in charge of the home team and looks to Michael O’Donnell and Shane Doherty to provide the experience needed as they are surrounded by a host of young promising players.
Both Declan McLaughlin and especially Damien Friel have been in goal scoring form for Rasheney where John Doherty has established an experienced outfit.
Games between the two are usually close with Rasheney’s experience provided over Carn’s youth.
Dunree United v Cockhill Celtic Youths (W Harvey)
DUNREE boss James Hegarty has introduced young players like Jerry Farrell and Darryl Moran and they have been playing well but a failure to convert chances overall has cost them dearly.
Cockhill are the early pacesetters and in the acquisition of Joe Doherty from Moville they possess a perfect foil for the younger players like Ronan McLaughlin and Michael Coyle to learn off.
Cockhill will be favourites although Dunree did upset them last season
