CLOUGHANEELY GOT THEIR 2016 league campaign underway as they travelled to Moyle Park to face Divsion 2 newcomers Milford.

The perfectly mild playing conditions made the setting for a game which went down to the wire. Milford were first out of the blocks and registered two points within quick succession, before Cloughaneely’s Shaun McGarvey was awarded a free to put Cloughaneely’s first point on the board.
Despite Cloughaneely being a number of men short due to soccer commitments; they really started to pull away 10 mins into the game; and had a 0-9 to 0-3 lead heading into the dying minutes of the half. However the resilient Milford, faced the challenge head on and were rewarded for their efforts with a well worked goal, seconds before the half time whistle from Brandon Toye; leaving the half time score 1-3 to 0-9.
The narrowing of the margin just before half time made for a neck and neck second half encounter. Again, Milford were first out of the blocks in part two with a couple of quick points to bring them within reach of the visiting side.
Shaun McGarvey, Cillian Gallagher and Shaun McGuire managed to add to Cloughaneely’s tally to keep them two points ahead of the home team in the dying seconds of the game.
With Milford realising the clock was counting down they found themselves a goal chance, which unfortunately for them, failed to reach the back of the net as Cathal McGettigan rattled the crossbar.
