CARNDONAGH’S CLARKE SISTERS, Labhaoise and Jessica, lead the Donegal charge today at the National Girls Championships.
The Carndonagh ABC due have won a combined eight Irish crowns to date and will look to add to that number in their respective finals today, while Twin Towns’ Aine Gallagher and Illies Golden Gloves’ Chloe McDaid are fighting for their first Irish titles.
Bantamweight Labhaoise Clarke, who has seven Irish titles already to her name, will take on Ryston’s Ava Doyle in the Girl 6 57kgs final at The National Stadium.
Clarke won gold at the Brampton Cup in Canada earlier this year and represented Ireland in an international in Paris.
Her sister, the flyweight Jessica Clarke, has also won an Irish title and, after a semi-final win last night, she meets Jessica Connolly of Ballaghadaerreen in the Girl 5 final at 50kgs.
Clarke overcame Kasey Holohan from St John Bosco last night, taking a unanimous win into her meeting with Connolly, who overcame Dealgan’s Rachel Costello in her semi.
Aine Gallagher is up against Fiona O’Keefe from Rathkeale in the Girl 3 39kgs decider, while Chloe McDaid faces up to Sinainn Glynn of Cloghan in the Girl 3 50kgs final.
Dunfanaghy pair Ciara Craig and Kristina McFadden were beaten in semi-finals last night with Craig losing out to Monkstown’s Saoirse Kearns at Girl 5 46kgs and McFadden missed out in her bout with Ryston boxer Lauren Sinclair in a Girl 6 66kgs semi.
