FORMER FINN HARPS manager Charlie McGeever believes there should be no consternation over dual players in the GAA.
The Derryconnor, Gortahork native (pictured above) took the Tipperary to this month’s All-Ireland Minor Football final courtesy of a 0-11 to 0-9 win over Kildare at Croke Park on Sunday. The Tipperary team is coached by Michael McGeehin from Letterkenny.
The Premier County will face a Kerry side that defeated Donegal – who were managed by another former Finn Harps player in the form of Declan Bonner – in last year’s final.
It could make for a memorable double for Tipperary as they will also feature in the All-Ireland Minor Hurling showpiece this Sunday against Galway. There are nine players involved with both panels.
“This team have shown resolve the whole way through,” McGeever, who managed Finn Harps to the 1999 FAI Cup final, said.
“Look at those lads. Nine of them have been going since last November – hurling, football, hurling, football – all the way through. I don’t want to hear an argument about dual players. Tipperary have shown you can do it. I know it’s difficult but two teams in the All-Ireland final – that’s what we want.
“We’ve used the word freshness all year. We’re all working well together. I feel the adrenaline from today will carry through again to next weekend because they’re young lads and they’re on a roll. I would hope the hurler win next weekend.”
