THE DONEGAL COMPETITIONS CONTROLS COMMITTEE (CCC) will discuss at its next meeting, to be held tomorrow night, the Under-21 football championship semi-final between St Eunan’s and Aodh Ruadh.
The game was called off this morning after the pitch at Pairc Eimead in Castlefin (pictured above this morning) was deemed to be unplayable.
An initial inspection at 8.30am gave the green light, but the persisting heavy rainfall meant that another inspection was necessary and the final call was made by the host club, Robert Emmets.
“We have no plans in place yet, but we will discuss it tomorrow night at the CCC meeting,” the CCC Secretary, Declan Martin, told Donegal Sport Hub.
“We will have to talk about it. St Eunan’s are out in the Ulster Minor next weekend so we’ll have to see.
“We haven’t had much time to think about it or arrange anything since.”
This is the third occasion that the game has been called off. Two weeks ago, the weather also resulted in the game being postponed while a clash with the Under-21 hurling championship game between the clubs meant that it was pulled from the schedule last weekend.
Mr Martin confirmed that no alternative venue had been arranged for this morning as his committee had been unable to contact representatives from the Parks Committee of St Mary’s, Convoy.
It had been suggested that the clubs could have tossed a coin for home advantage.
“It was mooted at the start by Aodh Ruadh that they would toss the coin, but St Eunan’s never agreed to a toss at any stage,” Mr Martin said. “I did toss a coin between Mick McGrath and Frankie Doherty at an executive meeting one night but that was a jump of the gun as St Eunan’s hadn’t agreed to the coin toss.”
Next Sunday, St Eunan’s minors are due to take on Slaughtneil in the Ulster Minor Football Tournament at the St Paul’s club in Belfast.
Kilcar, meanwhile, still wait on an opponent for the Donegal Under-21 Championship final.
