CARRIGART ABC’s MAEVE MCCARRON is in search of her first senior title tonight. The 18-year-old McCarron (pictured above) takes on Caroline Connolly in the 80+kgs decider at the Ulster Senior Championship finals at Bellinis, Newry.
Last month, McCarron won her seventh national title.
At the Irish Intermediate Championships, McCarron took the heavyweight title when she stopped Enniscorthy’s Jenny Carlyle in the third round of the final at the National Stadium.
McCarron, a bronze medalist at the European Youth Championships in 2013, now aims for what would be her first title at senior level tonight.
Standing in her way is former Raphoe ABC boxer Connolly, the Strabane native now under the banner of the Mourne Golden Gloves.
“I have a tough fight ahead, but hopefully I’ll be going back to Carrigart with a first senior title with me,” McCarron said.
Twin Towns’ Donna Barr and Illies Golden Gloves’ Darryl Moran have both been crowned Ulster champions by way of walkover wins in their divisions.
