CARL MCHUGH’S Plymouth Argyle posted a second win of the season in the Sky Bet League Two tonight.
The Lettermacaward native (pictured above) played the full 90 minutes as the side from the south coast enjoyed a 4-1 victory over Carlisle, scoring four times between the 43rd and 65th minutes through a double from Jake Jervis and a goal each for Reuben Reid and Graham Carey.
Carlisle did get something of a consolation following their long trek from the north-east when Joe Thompson scored in the last minute.
BBC have reported that Football League sponsors Sky Bet have offered to cover the cost of tickets and travel for the 169 Carlisle supporters who made the 779-mile arduous midweek trip.
Plymouth, who are currently sixth in the table and travel to Northampton on Saturday, have six points from their first three matches, having lost 2-1 at home to Portsmouth on Saturday and beaten AFC Wimbledon on opening day.
Elsewhere, Dale Gorman was an unused substitute as Stevenage lost 3-0 at Leyton Orient. It was level until Jay Simpson opened the scoring on 75 minutes and goals from Blair Turgott and Ollie Palmer sealed what was, in the end, a comfortable win.
In the Championship, Shane Duffy saw two late efforts cleared off the line as Blackburn Rovers almost grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat against Cardiff City. Joe Mason’s early goal had seemed set to give Cardiff victory before Grant Hanley levelled with two minutes to go.
