CARL MCHUGH scored the winner for Plymouth Argyle in the Football League Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at AFC Wimbledon last night.
The Lettermacaward native popped up with a 56th minute winner to seal a 3-2 win.
Argyle found themselves 2-0 down inside 25 minutes, after strikers Adebayo Azeez and Lyle Taylor put the home side into what appeared to be a comfortable position.
Jake Jervis pulled one back for the visitors before the break and it was 2-2 soon afterwards when Ryan Brunt finished off a flowing move.
Then, when AFC Wimbledon failed to deal with a Jervis cross, McHugh, formerly of Bradford City, volleyed home what proved to be the winning goal.
Plymouth have made a good start to the season and are away to Dale Gordon’s Stevenege on Saturday in League Two.
Meanwhile, on Monday night in League One, Stephen McLaughlin made his first appearance since signing for Southend United on a permanent deal from Nottingham Forest. United drew 2-2 with Coventry and the former Finn Harps winger came into the fray on 76 minutes.
