COMMONWEALTH YOUTH GAMES silver medallist Brett McGinty takes a step up in his bid to get back to the top of his game tonight.
The St Johnston man takes on Sligo City’s Jordan Myers at the Maldron Hotel in Derry in a tournament hosted by McGinty’s club, Oakleaf ABC.
Myers was the 2013 European Schoolboy champion and the pair are no strangers to each other in the squared circle.
In September, McGinty won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.
The 17-year-old defeated New Zealand’s Ryan Scaife and Australian’s Jack Gipp before being edged out in the 69kgs final by England’s Mohammed Harris Akbar.
Since then, McGinty, a six-time Irish champion and 2012 European Schoolboy bronze medallist, has recorded wins over Letterkenny’s Oran Shields and England’s Sonny Coates, but tonight’s clash with Myers represents a step up in opponent.
Also at the Oakleaf show, Convoy’s Josh Gibson faces Oakleaf puncher Tony McDevitt.
