BRETT McGinty is guaranteed at least a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games.
The St Johnston man has defeated Ryan Scaife from New Zealand by way of a unanimous decision in a quarter-final at 69kgs.
The 16-year-old (pictured above with the rest of the Northern Ireland boxing team) had been unwell over the last couple of days, but the six-time Irish champion was impressive in his defeat of Scaife, who came highly rated.
McGinty is a 2012 European Schoolboys bronze medalist and has made clear that his intentions are to return home with the gold nugget around his neck.
The Oakleaf ABC boxer made no mistake against Scaife in Apia, the capital of Samoa, where the Games are taking place.
Now, he goes for an upgrade of the colour.
