BRETT MCGINTY has been given a bye into the last 16 of the European Youth Championships.
McGinty is captain of the Irish team in Anapa and the Oakleaf ABC welterweight will box Hungary’s Laszio Kozak on Thursday in his opening bout.
The St Johnston man is in fine fettle and has made no secret of his desire to get onto the podium in Russia.
Two years ago, McGinty met and beat Kozak in Anapa at these Championships before he bowed out following a defeat by Croatia’s Mladam Sobjeslavski.
McGinty was a European bronze medallist at Schoolboy level in 2012, also in Anapa.
