BRETT MCGINTY WILL look to guarantee himself a European Youth bronze medal this evening when he fights Gurgen Madoyan in Russia.
McGinty meets the Armenian shortly after 5pm Irish time in Anapa, with the carrot of a medal dangling before the St Johnston man, who yesterday defeated Laszlo Kozak in his last 16 contest.
McGinty is captain of the Irish team in Russia and knows Madoyan from before as he fought and defeated the Armenian fighter when winning bronze at the European Schoolboy Championships in 2012.
Oakleaf ABC welterweight McGinty gave a cool display yesterday on his way to beating Kozak.
Monaghan’s Terry McEntee, Cork’s Oliver McCarthy and Clare’s Martin John Mongan are also last eight action at the Black Sea port.
