Brett McGinty moved to within nine minutes of his second National Elite final after a comfortable quarter-final win tonight.
The St Johnston native has stepped up to the middleweight division for the 2018 version having been beaten by Dean Walsh in last year’s welterweight decider.
McGinty, who lost out in an Ulster Elite final to Aidan Walsh of Monkstown late in 2017, made no mistake with an emphatic win over Glory Carlos Impala from Maynooth tonight.
Oakleaf ABC’s McGinty took a unanimous 5-0 decision.
Tomorrow evening, McGinty will face Kelyn Cassidy from the Saviours Crystal club in Waterford in the middleweight semi-final.
There was disappointment for Davit Tsotsoria of Illies, who was beaten via a unanimous verdict against St Michael’s, Dublin’s Anthony Browne in an 81kgs quarter-final.
