EAMONN McConigley is to step down as manager of Letterkenny Rovers at the end of the current season, the club has confirmed tonight.
McConigley, who is his second stint at Leckview Park, will vacate a role he has filled since 2015.
Previously, he managed Rovers from 2008-2012.
Rovers will contest two Cup finals – the Knockalla Caravans Senior Cup final and the Donegal News USL Cup final – in the coming weeks before the curtain will fall on McConigley’s tenure.
“I feel now is the right time to step down,” McConigley said.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as senior team manager and we still have two big games to come. I would like to thank the club, the backroom staff and players for all the support they have given me. It is my intention to remain involved in the club in whatever capacity I can help out.”
Rovers confirmed the news in a statement released tonight.
The club said: “During two trophy laden spells, Eamonn guided the club to our second Ulster Senior League title in 2009 along with 2 League Cup triumphs and 4 Knockalla Caravans Cup successes. “He also took the club on a memorable run to the FAI Intermediate Cup Final at the Aviva Stadium in 2016.
“The club also reached the last 32 of the FAI Senior Cup twice – in 2016 and again in 2019 having been drawn away to Athlone Town and UCD.
“During a spell as manager of the youth team, the club reached the semi-finals of the FAI Youth Cup in 2015.”
Rovers have confirmed that they are now seeking a new manager for the 2020/21 season.
Club Chairman Dessie Kelly: “Eamonn has been a fantastic asset to this club for many years now. We would like to put on record our sincere thanks for his outstanding work and commitment and for the many successes we have enjoyed during his tenure. Hopefully, there is still more to come before the season is finished.”
McConigley previously managed his native Fanad United and Killea FC in the Ulster Senior League.
