A DONEGAL GAA club has suspended all club activities as a precautionary measure surrounding a Covid-19 outbreak in Derry.
Naomh Colmcille have halted club activity after playing a challenge match last weekend against Glack.
Naomh Colmcille were due to face Gaeil Fhánada in the Regional League tomorrow evening and they have indicated that they will not be fulfilling that fixture in light of this evening’s decision.
The club says it will review the situation at the beginning of the week.
A statement said: “We need to point out that none of our players or members have been affected and this is solely a precaution as the health & safety of everyone is of the utmost importance.”
Today, ten clubs in Derry, including Glack, have announced that they have suspended their activities.
Craigbane and Banagher both took ‘precautionary measures’ by closing temporarily last night after outbreaks of Covid-19 in their area.
They were followed today by eight other clubs – Claudy, Ardmore, Foreglen, Drum, Drumsurn, Magilligan, Glack and Limavady.
Last Saturday, Naomh Colmcille played a challenge game agains Glack and have temporarily suspended its activity.
A statement from the club said: “The committee of N.Colmcille CLG has taken the decision to temporarily suspend all club activities as a precautionary measure after playing a challenge game last Saturday against Derry club Glack.
“Ten clubs in Derry, Glack included, have been temporarily closed this week after the public health agency identified a cluster of cases of Covid_19 in the town of Limavady.
“We need to point out that none of our players or members have been affected and this is solely a precaution as the health & safety of everyone is of the utmost importance.
“Our club Covid supervisor has been working closely with the Donegal County Board & the HSE today and the situation will be reviewed on Monday.
“Fixtures due to be played this weekend have now been postponed.”
