Dunfanaghy ABC’s Oisin Wallace booked a place in the Irish Boy 4 63kgs semi-final.
Wallace overcame Olympic BC’s Brian Barrett at the National Stadium yesterday in a preliminary bout.
Wallace, a week after securing an Ulster crown in Raphoe, took a 4-1 verdict to advance.
There was no joy, however, for his Dunfanaghy ABC colleague Odhrán McGinley, who came out on the wrong side of a unanimous decision against Drimnagh’s impressive Taylor Guiney.
Next Friday, Raphoe’s Eoin McGarrell and Kai Weir, as well as Convoy’s Ryan Ward-Mulrine begin their Junior 2 bid.
At 52kgs, former Irish champion McGarrell takes on Cashen Vale’s Ryan Downey, Weir meets Sean Butler from Riverstown at 66kgs, and at 63kgs Ward-Mulrine faces Crumlin’s Peter Vrinceanu.
Several boxers from Donegal are already through to the semi-finals, which are being held on March 23/24.
Dylan Browne-McMonagle (Letterkenny), Paddy McShane (Letterkenny), Jesse Callaghan (Illies), Fionnan Rodgers (Dungloe), Oran Wallace (Dunfanaghy) and Tom Doherty (Raphoe) are all looking forward to semis.
Illies’ Lee Davidson is guaranteed a final on Easter Saturday, when he takes on John Joyce from Mullingar at Junior 1 39kgs.
