Declan Bonner is the early favourite in the bookies to succeed Rory Gallagher as the Donegal senior football team manager.
Bonner is listed at 4/7 by Paddy Power to take over in a role he previously held from 1997-2000.
Bonner has managed the Donegal Minor and Under-21 teams to Ulster titles in recent years and is top of the chalk boards of the turf accountants 24 hours after Gallagher’s departure was announced.
Pete McGrath, who recently stepped down as Fermanagh manager, is 7/1, while Sean Paul Barrett, the Donegal minor manager, is at 9/1 alongside Tony McEntee.
Donegal football legend Martin McHugh – who guided Kilcar to the Donegal SFC final last year – is mentioned at 10/1. ‘The Wee Man’, who took Cavan to an Ulster title in 1997, has been linked to the role several times in the past.
Former managers Mickey Moran, Brian McIver and Jim McGuinness are also listed as are Gary McDaid and Maxi Curran, who served as selectors to Gallagher, are down the pecking order.
You can get a wager on Daniel O’Donnell (200/1) while former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given is priced at 100/1.
