BARRY McNamee says he had to take his time to ensure he made the right choice in selecting his new club.
The midfielder had been courted by several clubs, but Ollie Horgan landed his man.
“Between him and ‘Higgsy’ (Paul Hegarty, Harps assistant manager) they’re two hard men to say no to,” McNamee said.
“For me, it was about taking my time and making sure that it was the right choice.
“After everything in the last few years, I took a step back to go part-time. I enjoyed it. It’ll take me a wee bit of time to get up to the levels, but I’m enjoying it so far.”
Karl O’Sullivan put Harps in front on 56 minutes and McNamee arrived to help Harps see the game out.
“It was all about hanging on at that stage,” McNamee said.
“The boys put in a great shift. It was a tough game in tough conditions. We were lucky enough to come out on the right side of it with a win.
““It’s even more important when you’re at home. We did that. We got the goal. It was a bit scrappy, but we defended well and Mark (Anthony McGinley) pulled off a great save at the end.”
McNamee will be back on familiar ground next week as Harps face Derry City at the Brandywell.
He said: “If we’re honest, it will take a lot more to win other games in the League. It’s a massive step up for next week. We scrapped away well, but we’ll have to prepare a lot better.”
