Former player Barry Doherty has been appointed as the new Kilcar senior team manager.
The new All-County League season begins on Sunday when Kilcar welcome Glenswilly to Towney in a repeat of the 2016 Donegal SFC final.
Kilcar were left reeling two weeks ago when Martin McHugh announced to the senior squad that he was stepping down as manager.
The former Donegal player and Cavan senior manager took the post for 2016 and as well as guiding Kilcar to a first SFC final since 1993, the south-west side won the Division 1 League title.
McHugh confirmed the news to the squad after a Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta loss to Gaoth Dobhair, citing personal reasons for his decision.
At a club meeting tonight, Doherty was appointed as McHugh’s successor.
Last year, Doherty, a former Kilcar player until 2014, managed Na Rossa in Division 4, which was his first management post.
