Avril McNamee reaches the final of the US Open of Handball with fine semi-final win

AVRIL MCNAMEE FROM Ballybofey is just one step away from winning the US Open of Handball at Fountain Valley, California.

McNamee, from the MacCumhaill’s club, today defeated Ellen O’Connor from Leixlip, Co Kildare, on a scoreline of 21-11, 21-12 in the semi-finals and will face Julie Jordan from Anchorage, Alaska in final tomorrow.

Jordan overcame Kirstin Hughes from Austin, Texas, in their last four tie on a 21-16, 21-14 scoreline. The final gets underway at 7:30pm Irish time on Sunday.
