Avril McNamee off to winning start in World Championships

AVRIL McNamee has won her first game at the World Handball Championships in Canada.

McNamee, from Knock in Ballybofey, defeated Terry Bowman from Shady Shores, Texas, in straight sets.

The 25-year-old Sean MacCumhaills woman is competing in the Championships for the second time having reaches the quarter-finals in Dublin three years ago.

She got her bid for glory off to the perfect start at the Optimist Arena in Calgary, where she recorded an impressive 21-12, 21-14 win.
