AVRIL McNamee is through to the semi-finals of both the Women’s A and B singles grades at the World Handball Championships in Canada.
The Sean MacCumhaills clubwoman takes on Clodagh McManamon from Newport, County Mayo, in this afternoon’s ‘A’ semi-final.
In her opening game, the 25-year-old defeated Terry Bowman from Shady Shores in Texas 21-12, 21-14.
McNamee followed that up with a straight sets in over Honolulu’s Stefanie Weaver, 21-14, 21-14.
McNamee, who hails from Knock in Ballybofey, is competing in the World Championships for the second time having reached the quarter-finals in Dublin in 2012.
In the ‘B’ section, McNamee is also in semi-final action this evening.
McNamee defeated Mikaila Mitchell of Blue Springs 21-5, 21-9 and will meet Kistina Rude from Saint Paul, Minnesota in her semi-final at Calgary’s Optimist Arena.
