LAURENCE Toland has Swilly Rovers coursing through his veins – and nothing would give the Ramelton man greater pride than by helping the Lennonsiders to some success this season.
He’s only 26, but he’s been a mainstay of the Swilly side for what seems like an age now, having graduated as a teenager to the first team.
“There aren’t a lot of teams in so you have to be on the go from the start,” Toland told Donegal Sport Hub on the new campagn.
“We’re back at it about four weeks now and we have a lot of young players this year.
“We’ve a good youth structure at the club now and we want to bring them through.
“We’re raring to go again.
“The aims and ambitions are to keep it local and to bring the youth players on, the likes of Shaun Crossan, Caolan Murray, Mark Wilson and Shea Durning.”
Last July, Swilly defeated Letterkenny Rovers in the Knockalla Caravans Cup final before losing to Cockhill Celtic in the League Cup decider.
A renowned Cup team over the years, Swilly will be in search of glory again under Jason Gibson’s management.
Toland is a strong advocate of the retention of the USL despite its recent trevails.
He said: “The next level is senior football. It would be disappounting not to be playing intermediate football because, as a player, you want to be playing at the highest level possible.”
