Audio: Shane Byrne’s delight as LyIT knock the ‘puff’ out of opponents to reach semis

Shane Byrne felt that his Letterkenny Institute of Technology side ‘thoroughly deserved’ their place in the CFAI semi-finals.

Two late goals by BJ Banda and Daire McDaid secured a 2-1 win over Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa at the Port Road today, meaning the LyIT men will be in the semi-finals in a fortnight’s time.

“I thought it was a very good performance,” Byrne told Donegal Sport Hub.

“We kept our shape very well against a very good side. We knew at half-time that, if we could stay with them and put it up to them, that we’d get a chance.

“We stressed the importance of being solid today and we were the far better side in the second half. We thoroughly deserve to be in the semi-final.

“When we equalised, the puff went out them. They thought we weren’t going away – and they were right.”
