A NEW ERA for the Letterkenny Institute of Technology soccer team kicks off this afternoon at Dangan when Shane Byrne manages the side for the first time in a competitive game.
The Port Road students meet NUI Galway in their opening game of the new term, in Division One Group A of the College University Football League.
Glengad United manager Byrne has taken the reigns following the departure of Niall McGonagle and will have Paddy Gallagher aiding him on the line.
Byrne, who guided Glengad to their first Jackie Crossan Premier Division title in the Inishowen League last season, is looking forward to the challenge.
“It’s a completely different thing from running a club side,” Byrne (pictured above with Charlie Collins) told Donegal Sport Hub.
“You have lads who have assignments due or are working – they have different reasons for not making training. It’s a different scenario, but I’m looking forward to it.”
After their opener in Galway, LYIT will travel to Dundalk IT before back-to-back home fixtures against GMIT and IT Blanchardstown and their final game sees them away to IT Sligo.
Letterkenny Institute of Technology panel: Keelan McElwaine (Fanad United), Daire McDaid (Kilmacrennan Celtic), Ross Coughlan (Kilcullen), Anthony Appiah (Bonagee United), Michael Ogunnaike (Rock Celtic), Liam Doherty (Finn Harps), Michael Kusigbagbe (unattached), Cian Mulligan (Letterkenny Rovers), Peter Burke (Cliftonville), Peter Doherty (Cockhill Celtic), Fearghal Harkin (Clonmany Shamrocks), Kevin Doran (Rathmullan Celtic), Derek Ani (unattached), Jamie Boyle (Gweedore Celtic), Paul McVeigh (Letterkenny Rovers), Ryan Connolly (Rathmullan Celtic), Darren Gallagher (Aileach FC), Conor Harkin (Aileach FC).
