SEAN SWEENEY met with Orchard FC’s players on July 22 and asked for their ‘heart and soul’ for a season – and he’s been pleased with the response.
After a 2-2 draw with derby rivals Glencar Celtic in Rathmullan last Saturday kept them a point clear of their local foes, Orchard now make the tricky trip to Arranmore United tomorrow.
“It will be a serious test now to go to the island and get anything,” says Sweeney, who is enjoying the view from the table top.
“It’s been a great start to the season. I told them I’d put my heart and soul into for a year and asked them for the same.
“We have a very strong bench this year and the lads on the pitch know that. I played for eight years with the club and saw more bad days than good. We’ve a long way to go now.”

“A point apiece was a fair result. There was always going to be plenty of chances in that game. Overall, the game was very open. I’m happy with the lads – they had plenty of work rate and desire.”
