RYAN MCHUGH PRAISED DONEGAL’S ‘guts and determination’, insisting the Tír Chonaill men never had doubts against Fermanagh yesterday.
Donegal played with 14 men for the second half following the dismissal of Neil McGee, their full-back, late in the first half.
“It was a tough encounter, but we showed great guts and determination, especially when we went down to 14,” McHugh said.

“We’re delighted just to get over the line.
“We never took Fermanagh lightly. They had a great league campaign and they had a good first outing against Antrim.
“We got off to a good enough start, but we let them back in and losing Neil was tough.”
Donegal’s response to that setback was key and Rory Gallagher’s team kicked 1-4 in the third quarter to move clear.
McHugh said: “Our second half display was good enough and we;’ll need it from day one against Monaghan.
“We showed a wee bit of ruthlessness to go for the second goal when it didn’t look on and we held out.”
