DONEGAL MANAGER Rory Gallagher acclaimed his players performance and desire in last night’s Ulster SFC semi-final replay win over Monaghan.
After being held in last week’s sticky draw, Donegal switched off twice in the first half to allow Monaghan in for goals that kept this one alive until the very last, fascinating flicker burned out.
It was spellbinding at times and almost impossible to keep up with all that was happening, but when time was called Donegal were a point in front.
“Every single one of them gave it absolutely everything,” Gallagher said.
[adrotate group=”43″]“They’re a credit to Donegal.
“I have been involved with those boys five years out of six. Every day we win a Championship match it’s been a great day.
“We felt last week after it being a draw that this week took on an even bigger prize. There is huge rivalry between the two teams. Everyone can see that. Everyone knows that.”
It was the ninth League or Championship meeting of these teams since 2013, the fifth in the Championship.
[adrotate group=”76″]His answer was coy when asked if it meant more because of the opposition, but his demeanour made it quite clear.
The Donegal manager said: “There is no doubt that we didn’t want to go three-one down in this mini-series.
“It’s huge. We want to be in the Ulster final.
[adrotate group=”68″]“We’re there in the 17th of July and we don’t want to wake up on the 18th without the Ulster Championship.”
The manner of the goals conceded will be Gallagher’s first port of call when it comes to analysing the game.
He said: “We played outstanding football, but we have to learn the lessons. The two goals were soft ones to give away. You have to give Monaghan great credit, but we need to learn.”
