SHAUN PAUL BARRETT said his Donegal minor team was ‘lucky’ to get over the line against Antrim at Corrigan Park last night.
With everything and more at stake, in a do-or-die contest, Donegal were five behind, and had had Eoghan McGettigan sent off and Jason McGee black carded, when they hit back.
Niall O’Donnell dug Donegal out of the hole, scoring 2-5 after sub Eamon Fyffe bagged 2-3 for the Saffrons.
“You have to credit the lads, they showed great character,” Barrett told Donegal Sport Hub.
[adrotate group=”43″]“A lot of lads stood up when the pressure was on. You have to hand it to Niall O’Donnell. It was another brilliant performance. He is a fabulous talent.
“It was tight stuff the whole way through. We were lucky to be going in on parity at half-time. We didn’t deserve that.
“We were very nervous. We didn’t get going. Thing were up against us in the second half and we were under real pressure. It was a disappointing performance, but we’re delighted to get through.”
[adrotate group=”53″]Fyffe’s two goals are certainly one aspect of the game that Donegal will look to correct.
They face Monaghan in an Ulster semi-final on Saturday, June 25.
Barrett said: “Our defending was quite poor, but that’s something to build on.
“We have four weeks to prepare for Monaghan now. We have an awful lot of work to do.”
