IT WASN’T that long ago that Kieran Murray wasn’t sure what the World Transplant Games were.
Now though, the Ramelton native (pictured above) is headed to Mar del Plata in Argentina to take part in this year’s event. Murray, who has had two kidney transplants, will take part in five events in South America – golf, the 5,000m, 1500m, 800m and 200m – with competition getting underway on Sunday.
Murray will be looking to add to his impressive haul of three gold medals from last year’s European Transplant and Dialysis Games that took place in Krakow, Poland.
“I’m very lucky,” he said. “There are people waiting for years on dialysis. I was going to go the British Games in Gatehead but decided then to go the World Games in Argentina.”
