GRACE BOYLE, the Race Director of the RunDonegal Women’s 5k, has appealed for Donegal women to come out in force at the 2016 event on Sunday April 3rd.
This year, ‘Sharon’s Girls’ will be the beneficiary from the proceeds of the event.
Sharon Alexander passed away in the Donegal Hospice in early November, just two years after her former partner, and the children’s father died tragically.
Three girls – Shannon (15), Amy (14) and Kayleigh (12) were left behind. Amy is being cared for by her aunt and uncle in Killygordon with Shannon and Kayleigh taken in by another aunt and uncle in Drumkeen.
Amy, who has Down Syndrome, is on a waiting list for heart surgery. The house in Killygordon has no downstairs bedroom, which Amy requires, while the Drumkeen bungalow is too small.
The organisers of the RunDonegal Women’s 5k hope their contribution can assist.
“It’s one that will pull at everyone’s heart strings,” Ms Boyle said.
“This is only a small thing that we can to do help. We’re delighted that we’ve gone with this charity.
“This is a chance for women to come out and help.”
