THE DONEGAL Under-21 manager, Declan Bonner, felt that his team took plenty of positives in spite of a heavy defeat today.
“We knew that the legs would go,” Bonner told Donegal Sport Hub.
“We knew that the last 15 minutes would be tough. The boys put in a big shift out there.
“I don’t think the scoreline was a reflection on the work we put in. We got caught ball watching late on and they tagged on 1-3 late on. We knew Cavan would finish strong.
“We played well for long periods. We made mistakes, but Cavan brought a lot of intensity to the game. They’re a Division 1 side and have a lot of experience. You could see that experience in the last 15 minutes.”
Donegal’s first score didn’t arrive until the 18th minute, when Ethan O’Donnell bagged a goal. Donegal were level at the break, but Cavan came on strong in part two.
Bonner said: “We knew that we’d be up against it, but we’re looking at the positives and we’ll take a lot away from this game.
“We didn’t start well, but we finished well in the first half and could have gone in ahead at half-time.
“We’re taking plenty of positives from the day.”
